Upcoming Training Opportunities
REGISTRATION: OPEN
This training is for CSS direct care staff, clinicians, and RNs who have never taken the 9-week CSS training through the Rutgers School of Health Professions (SHP).
The series itself will be remote and will begin the week of September 22nd, 2026. It will be a blend of synchronous Zoom meetings and asynchronous (independent) learning activities. This is a camera-on event. If you believe you will be unable to have your camera on throughout the entirety of the Zoom session, your supervisor must reach out to us directly.
Please register for the Fall 2026 training series in one of the two training groups*:
Tuesdays 10:00AM-1:00PM from 9/22/2026-11/17/2026
Wednesdays 12:30PM-3:30PM from 9/23/2026-11/18/2026
Within a few days of registering, you will receive an email (check junk folder) with instructions on setting up a Canvas account and completing the prerequisite modules.
Registration for the Fall 2026 Training will close on September 14th, 2026.
*Please Note: You do not need to retake these modules if you have previously completed them. Please reach out to the instructors to notify them if and when you previously completed the modules.

Title of Webinar: The Housing Specialist’s Superpower: Curiosity, Observation, and the Art of Helping
Helping is at the heart of supportive housing, but when does helping become taking over? Great housing specialists don’t need to have all the answers or solve every problem. Their “superpower” lies in knowing what to notice, what to ask, and when to step in.
This 90-minute interactive training explores the “art of helping” through curiosity, observation, and pattern recognition, and the housing specialist’s role in finding the right balance between providing support and promoting greater independence. Participants will examine the continuum from doing for → doing with → stepping back and consider how certain factors can influence the amount and type of support we provide. Staff will explore strategies to ask and answer questions including: What can this person already do? Where is support actually needed? What could we do together instead of doing for them? When might stepping back create an opportunity for growth?
Grounded in psychiatric rehabilitation, recovery-oriented practice, and trauma-informed care, the session will review practical tools and real-world supportive housing scenarios to help participants make more intentional decisions about how they help, providing meaningful support while creating opportunities for choice, participation, skill development, greater independence, and recovery.

Registration is open for the CSS orientation modules available through the online learning platform Canvas. The Orientation Modules are pre-requisites to all CSS training facilitated by the Rutgers CSS Training and Technical Assistance Initiative team. There are five modules in total.
The first 3 modules open to all CSS staff cover:
- An Overview of CSS Admissions and Documentation Processes
- CSS Services
- The Golden Thread of Documentation
There are an additional two modules for staff who develop CSS documentation (clinicians/RN’s):
- Developing the Rehabilitation Needs Assessment
- Developing the Individualized Rehabilitation Plan
