PREP Webinar: The Role of CRIPA in Monitoring Public Psychiatric Hospitals
CRIPA (Civil Rights of Institutionalized Persons Act) protects the constitutional and federal statutory rights of people confined to residential institutions, including psychiatric hospitals. The Dept. of Justice’s Civil Rights Division Special Litigation Section is charged with CRIPA enforcement. In this webinar, seminal court cases, CRIPA legislation, the investigative processes, and settlement agreements will be presented. Additional topics will include a discussion of other monitoring agencies and how all staff can support the civil rights of individuals in their care.
