The obstacle of danger hinders not only the work of mental health care providers but also the very people that are receiving services. The task of taking on this threat has been shared by many disciplines, with not one discipline having it as its primary focus. This has led many to demand a change within the state hospital system, and many have asked for that change to be in line with adding more security. This cry has reached the point that, for the first time, the state will implement a security department within the three civil hospitals that primarily focus on reducing hospital violence. Eugene Colvin, one of the architects of this new program, will discuss the philosophy, formation, training, and deployment of this program.
