How to Prepare for a Tutoring Session

 

Before scheduling your appointment with a peer or alumni tutor, please follow these steps:

• Prepare for your session:

  • Consider the topics you would like to discuss with your tutor.

  • Choose a date and time when you will be in a quiet location with a computer or tablet.

  • Avoid using a cell phone or attending your session in a public space where you cannot have privacy or wear headphones.

• Schedule your appointment through WC Online:

  • Select an available appointment with a peer or alumni tutor.

  • If scheduling with a peer tutor, choose whether you will meet in-person or online.

  • Please note: All alumni tutors are only available online.

• Before your appointment:

  • Gather any materials you will need, including:

    • Class notes

    • Slides

    • Textbooks

  • Be prepared to screenshare during your session if needed.

• To change or cancel an appointment:

  • Go to the My Appointments tab in WC Online.

  • Click on your appointment and select Change Appointment or Cancel Appointment.

Successful students in the nursing program know that early, proactive use of tutoring is a key to academic success. Tutoring can help you strengthen your understanding and fill in knowledge gaps while you’re learning—not just before exams.

• Tutoring is not re-teaching. Tutors are trained to:

  • Answer content-specific questions

  • Share strategies that worked for them in the course

  • Help you think critically and independently

  • Tutors are not able to review exams with students. For exam review questions, students should schedule an appointment with their professor.

• Tutoring session guidelines:

  • Each session lasts one hour

  • Students may schedule one peer or alumni session every 7 days

  • You may attend unlimited drop-in tutoring hours

• Alumni Drop-in sessions:

  • Best for quick questions or clarification

  • No appointment needed

  • Open to all students on a first come, first served basis.

  • Offered online only
