Boyish
A Film by Mai Chiaet
“Boyish” explores the director’s relationship to their gender and their family and friends’ reaction to them coming out as nonbinary. Through candid conversation, exploration, and piecing together memories of the past, the director and interviewees try to find a middle ground to the concepts surrounding being nonbinary as well as the myths about gender and gender roles.
Mai Chiaet (they/them) is a third-year student majoring in Public Policy with a minor in women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. Past theatrical and film credits include Hair (Assistant Director, Livingston Theatre Company) and Solidarity Forever: The Power of Music (Filmmaker).
