How New Jersey’s Limits on “Forever Chemicals” in Tap Water Brought Levels Down
Dr. Hari Iyer’s lab led a study on PFAS levels in New Jersey drinking water systems, featured in Rutgers Today.
Dr. Iyer leads new review on Geospatial Artificial Intelligence and Data Science in Current Environmental Health Reports.
Geospatial analysis is a cornerstone of environmental health research, enabling scientists to examine how environmental exposures influence chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, dementia, and cancer, as well as upstream behaviors like sleep, activity, and cognition. With the rise of machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI), new opportunities are emerging to enhance environmental exposure assessment.
Recent Advances:
Two major developments are reshaping the field.
-
GeoAI for Exposure Modeling: Integrating geospatial methods with AI and machine learning allows scalable, high-resolution exposure prediction across large health datasets, improving accuracy for population studies.
-
Sensor and Mobile Data Integration: The widespread use of smartphones and wearables with GPS and environmental sensors enables fine-grained, real-time exposure measurement.
