History
Turfgrass Pathologist Pedigree
I started this project because I have heard so many fascinating stories about how earlier turf pathologists loved and hated each other, collaborated to solve problems, yelled at each other in public, and more — things common to every scientific discipline. I came from a non-turf background, and when I first joined this community these people felt like characters out of a novel or a movie, except that they actually existed.
They helped shape the field we have today, and some of them even determined how we look at and manage disease around the world. Every single day it feels like standing on the shoulders of giants who walked out of a movie scene. I want to record what’s worth recording, and I want the people who knew them, worked with them, had beers with them, the people who can verify this, to see the family tree and correct it, so I can remember how it started and how it came about, and enjoy every step moving forward. And if you ever sat in their talks or learned from their philosophies, you are a witness to something no publication record can hold: that the people who generated this wisdom were never static, but had color, personality, and humanity.
