Engaged Civic Learning

I have taught, an engaged civic learning course, Violence Against Women, four times. As part of this course, students have delivered an enhanced, evidence-based relationship and sexual assault prevention program to 272 other college and high school students who were not in the course.

  • In 2018, all of the students in my course received the Chancellors Award for Student Civic Engagement Cavanaugh-press-release-2018
  • I published an article about my related teaching activities–see Cavanaugh, C.E. (2019). A novel model for advancing student learning and sexual assault prevention on campus. Teaching of Psychology, 46, 306-311.
  • My course serves as a model that could be used nationwide Inside Higher Ed, 2020
  • One semester, my class consisted of both traditional college students and high school seniors from the LEAP Academy who were in the dual enrollment program See here  .
  • My related teaching activities were covered in the Monitor on Psychology in April 2022
