DARPA Reefense: A Mosaic Oyster Habitat (MOH) for Coastal Defense
- Reefense – DARPA. The Reefense strategy includes employing recent innovations in materials science, hydrodynamic modeling, adaptive biology, and multiple effectors to develop growing structures that are optimized to rapidly implement coastal defenses suited to a changing environment.
- DARPA Reefense – Haskin Shellfish Research Laboratory. Rutgers has been awarded $12.6 million by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop an oyster-based shoreline ecosystem to help protect coastlines from storm damage, flooding and erosion, within DARPA’s Reefense project.
- Rutgers-led Project Successfully Conducts Testing of Shellfish Reef Structure Designed to Promote Coastal Resilience. The multi-institution project, “Reefense: A Mosaic Oyster Habitat (MOH) for Coastal Defense,” consists of three different teams comprising multiple institutions that are charged with developing resilient coastlines based upon oysters and corals, and the protective reef structures they
