I am an environmental sociologist who works primarily on sustainable food systems, renewable energy, and ethical consumption. My research uses survey-based, experimental, and qualitative methods to explore questions about how food systems can become more environmentally sustainable, socially just, and economically rewarding for small and medium-sized producers. I focus particularly on farmers, food businesses, and nonprofit organizations that grow, market, and promote fruits, vegetables, and other specialty crops. At Rutgers, I teach courses on environmental politics, sustainable food, and research methods, and I am a member of the graduate faculties in Sociology, Nutritional Sciences, Planning and Public Policy, and Geography. My research has been supported by the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service and the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, and has been published in a wide range of peer-reviewed journals.
