The CARIÑO Lab, led by Dr. Evelyn Arana-Chicas, conducts community-engaged research to reduce cancer disparities among historically underserved populations, particularly Hispanic cancer survivors. Our work focuses on developing and testing culturally and linguistically-appropriate behavioral interventions that improve quality of life, symptom management, and access to care. Current projects include: 1) a Latin dance program to address sleep disturbances in Hispanic cancer survivors, 2) a needs assessment of Hispanic LGBTQ+ survivors, and 3) a culturally adapted shared decision-making intervention to improve lung cancer screening uptake in Hispanics who smoke. We use mixed methods, community partnerships, and implementation science to ensure our interventions are relevant, equitable, and sustainable. Ultimately, our goal is to create inclusive, evidence-based solutions that advance health equity across the cancer care continuum.
