Our student interns contribute significantly to the efficient running of the lab, rotating through different teams to support a range of research activities.

Shreya Bhalla 

November 2023-present
  • School and concentration: I attend Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (MD Candidate).
  • Research in lab: I am currently working to create a refined model for travel burden for New Jersey men diagnosed with prostate cancer to analyze associations between travel burden and choice of treatment.

 

Julia Jones 

June 2024-present
  • School and concentration: I am a medical student at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
  • Research in lab: I am currently studying variations among androgen deprivation therapy use across the United States and the impacts of demographics on these geographic variations.

Jacob Hanna, BS 

June 2025-September 2025
  • School and concentration: I am a medical student at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (Class of 2028). Summer intern through the OPTIM program.
  • Research in lab:  I conducted epidemiological research with Dr. Iyer on the factors associated with one day discharge following radical prostatectomy using the SEER Medicare Database. Looking at 47 thousand patients across 2008-2019.

Surya Venkatraman

September 2025-present

  • School and concentration: I am currently a student at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (Class of 2028).
  • Research in lab: I am working on the REPEL project, focusing on determining a potential link between PFAS exposure and the development and progression of prostate cancer.
