Hi, my name is Alejandra Hernandez and I am in the REU program working on a project which involves understanding why migratory birds utilize urban green spaces as stopover sites during the migratory seasons. It’s important to understand this because it can offer behavioral insights on climate change in their natural habitat. Birds provide ecosystem services such as pest control, pollination, and seed dispersal. Studying this can also help us improve our knowledge of urban diversity and its importance on the ecology of urban spaces. We should care to know this because it can help us understand why migratory bird species are declining. It also fosters a sustainable and vibrant environment for all.
