Melany is Postdoctoral fellow since 2019 and Research Assistant since 2020. Since January 2021, Melany joined the Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador as a Faculty member in the College of Science and Engineering.
Melany obtained her Ph.D. and M.Sc. from Princeton University in Environmental and Water Resources where she studied the Feammox process and its applications. She obtained her B.Sc. from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador where her research focused on Applied Molecular Virology .
Melany is interested in studying the diversity of microorganisms in different systems with the aim of tackling harmful bacteria and harnessing the beneficial ones and their products. Currently her main research at Jin’s lab focuses on studying the effects of mitochondrial uncouplers as bioenergetic modulators in bacteria.
