Auditions are held during normally scheduled ensemble rehearsal times (7:00pm-9:00pm). Auditionees do not sign up for a “time-slot,” but instead register to audition (see below) and attend the audition date that works best for their schedule. Auditionees should check-in at the welcome tables in the lobby of Marryott Music Building upon their arrival. Please see the page Audition Schedule for more details such as audition dates, times and locations.

Day-Of Audition Info:

Check-in: Auditionees should check-in at the welcome tables in the lobby behind Nicholas Stage/outside Rehearsal Hall Room 104 upon their arrival. Auditions will be held in Rehearsal Room 104.

Warm-up: Practice rooms are available for students to use to warm-up before their audition. Practice rooms are located in the Marryott Music Building– basement level, Music Annex Practice Building & Mortensen Hall– basement level. Practice rooms are available on a first come, first served basis.

Audition Format: There will be three segments to the informal audition totaling approximately 6 minutes:

  1. Audition Repertoire: Perform two short classical excerpts no longer than 4 minutes – one to demonstrate tone and phrase, another to demonstrate fast technical performance. These may be chosen from an etude book, a select piece of solo concert band literature, an orchestral etude, or from a piece of standard solo repertoire such as an all-state solo. You may also choose from the variety of repertoire available to you on the page: Audition Repertoire
  2. Sight-reading: A very brief sight-reading excerpt will be provided at the audition. The piece will be straightforward and is designed to highlight your musical abilities.

Audition Results: All Audition results will be posted by Friday evening, Jan 24th on the Ensembles Rosters Page
