Instrumental Non-MGSA Students
Non-MGSA Wind Auditions
Spring 2026
Date: January 21, 2026
Time: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM (students audition as they arrive, no time sign up)
Location: Music Annex 002, 005 (Go downstairs when you arrive)
Repertoire: Students will be asked to play two short, contrasting selections (approx. 5 minutes total) of their choosing (something technical and something lyrical) in a relaxed meeting format with one of our faculty members in the band department. It can be a solo, etude, excerpt, etc.
Students may direct all questions regarding non-major wind auditions to Dr. Todd Nichols, Director of Bands – toddni@mgsa.rutgers.edu
Non-MGSA Percussion Auditions
Students will follow guidelines set by Area Head Joe Tompkins (percussion). Students should contact the Area Heads for specific information regarding auditions for these instruments.

Non-MGSA String Auditions
Spring 2026
Auditions are required for new participants who did not enroll for Sinfonia in Fall 2025.
(Students who enrolled in Sinfonia Fall 2025 do not need to re-audition for Spring 2026. Please register for the class by January 20 so that you are in the consideration for seating assignments.)
Modality: Virtual
Where: Please send the link of your playing video (see the “Repertoire” section) to Dr. Ching-Chun Lai, chingchun.lai@rutgers.edu
Deadline: January 20, 2026
Repertoire: Students can perform one or two solo works that demonstrate their technique, tone, and musicality. Approximately 5 minutes in length.
Result: Students who pass the audition will see their name in the rosters. Please register for the course.
First Rehearsal: Sinfonia rehearsals will begin on Wednesday, January 28.
Sinfonia Rehearsal Schedule: Wednesdays from 7:30 PM – 10:30 PM on Douglass Campus
Sinfonia Rehearsal Location: Rehearsal Hall 104 on Douglass Campus
Sinfonia Performances: Friday, April 17, 7:30 pm
