The Northeast & Caribbean Mental Health Technology Transfer Center
(MHTTC) developed a Motivational Interviewing Training of Trainers manual and associated training resources.

The Motivational Interviewing: A Training of Trainers manual prepares those knowledgeable in MI to deliver motivational interviewing instruction to their peers and colleagues. The motivational interviewing training is comprised of six modules designed for delivery in 60-minute in-service sessions.

The trainer manual contains:
1. Guidance for individuals to be effective trainers
2. PowerPoint slides with detailed presenter notes and activities
3. Activity worksheets and other training resources referenced in the modules
4. Videos that demonstrate critical MI skills

The participant manual contains the training PowerPoint slides (with room to take notes) and all activity worksheets.

Each module was designed with principles of adult learning in mind. Specifically, didactic material for each concept and related best practices are complemented with examples, resources, activities, and discussion questions to help learners apply the didactic material.

The primary audience for the Motivational Interviewing: A Training of Trainers manual is the behavioral health workforce, including, but not limited to, psychologists, social workers, counselors, peer specialists, case managers, and more.

This may include practitioners working in:
Inpatient and outpatient mental health programs
