Principal Investigator

Michelle Chen

Dr. Michelle Chen is a neuropsychologist by training. She completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Yeshiva University, clinical internship at the VA Maryland Health Care System, and postdoctoral fellowship at Kessler Foundation. She is trained as both a scientist and a clinician, with experience across a variety of clinical populations such as multiple sclerosis, dementia, and epilepsy. Dr. Chen is currently a core member of the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research and an Instructor in the Department of Neurology at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Research Assistant/Coordinator

Kathryn Marton

Kat graduated from Wellesley College in 2022 with a degree in Data Science. As an undergraduate, she worked in a psychology lab focusing on sign language and language development. Her research interests include language and neurodegenerative diseases. She plans to continue her studies and pursue a PhD in psychology.

In her free time, Kat enjoys archery, board games, and raising bonsai.

Yingfei Tang

Yingfei graduated from Rutgers University in 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Her research interests lie in Neuropsychology and mood disorders. Additionally, she is self-learning data science to enhance her skills in data analysis. Moving forward, she aims to pursue a Ph.D. in Neuropsychology and continue conducting research.

Ashrarul Haq Sifat

Ash is an Engineer and Researcher with a knack for solving real life problems and utilizing digital technologies for improving human life. He completed a bachelor’s in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology. He then did his Master’s and subsequent PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech. Ash is driven for excellence in research and excited to join Dr. Chen’s Neuropsychology lab with a mission to utilize digital technologies and data science to enable healthy aging. In this free time Ash loves to travel, hike and play tennis/ping pong.

Undergraduate Research Assistants

Anjali Patel

Anjali is a junior currently pursuing a double major in Public Health and Cell Biology and Neuroscience. Her future goal is to practice medicine where she is looking to specialize in either neurology or pediatrics.

Currently, she is doing research on the neurological sequela of COVID-19 in persons with multiple sclerosis. Her interests lie in neuroscience research, particularly in neurodegenerative diseases. Outside of school, she loves to read, play board games with her family, and hang out with her friends.

Christine Cherian

Christine is a senior at Rutgers University and is majoring in Biochemistry. She is a student at the Douglass Residential College and Honors College. Her interests in neurology and digital health made the Rutgers Neuropsychology lab a valuable opportunity for her.

In the future, Christine looks forward to pursuing a career in health care. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering for a maternal health organization, baking, and going on walks with her dog

Undergraduate Research Assistants

Eliana Birnbaum 

Eliana is a senior at Rutgers University majoring in cognitive science and minoring in chemistry. Her interests lie in cognitive health and digital health application. Eliana enjoys the research she’s been doing and hopes to pursue a future in health care research.

Akila is currently a sophomore majoring in Cell Biology & Neuroscience. She joined the lab in the Summer of 2023 and plans to attend medical school, hoping to pursue the MD/PhD track and specialize in Neurology. She is a part of the Post-COVID Fatigue Study and Multiple Sclerosis cognition study at the lab.

Outside of academics, Akila likes to cook, bake, and play the violin.

Laura Liao

Laura is a junior majoring in Cell Biology and Neuroscience and minoring in Psychology, Business Administration, and Spanish. She is currently researching the real-time physiological biomarkers of post-COVID fatigue using wearable sensors. In the future, she hopes to pursue a career in medicine as a physician.

Outside of academics, Laura enjoys running, swimming, playing the violin, and spending time with family and friends.

Tanirikka Ramkumar

Tanirikka is a sophomore majoring in Cognitive Science and minoring in Computer Science, paralleling on the pre-med track. The Neuropsychology Laboratory was an excellent opportunity for her to pursue her interests in cognition, neuroscience, and digital health and gain valuable research skills. Outside of academics, Tanirikka enjoys baking, traveling, and knitting.
