Research Education
“The Department of Neurosurgery currently has six basic and translational research laboratories overseen by PhD and MD/PhD level faculty members (Drs. Boison, Elkabes, Jang, Kim, McKinnon, Sun). The research labs are engaged in translational research in the areas of epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and neuropsychiatric complications involving cutting edge biomedical engineering approaches and metabolomic and epigenomic reprogramming.
Residents are encouraged to participate in ongoing laboratory and clinical research throughout their training with their PGY5 year dedicated to research and/or an enfolded fellowship in the area of their choosing. Residents in our program have also taken advantage of the PGY5 year to attain advanced degrees such as a MPH.
