The 2024 NewGeo Annual Conference brought together graduate students, faculty, and community leaders for a vibrant day of collaboration and learning focused on environmental justice and social mobility. Held at Rutgers University–Newark, the event featured dynamic team presentations highlighting student-led research, public engagement, and community-driven solutions to pressing environmental issues in Newark and beyond.
The conference kicked off with opening remarks introducing the Newark Geoscience Ecosystem (NewGeo), followed by powerful showcases from graduate students working alongside local organizations STEAM Urban and Newark Water Coalition. Interactive sessions encouraged dialogue around building long-term, reciprocal partnerships that advance both academic and community goals.
With engaging activities, thoughtful discussions, and shared commitments to equity and sustainability, this year’s NewGeo Conference reaffirmed the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in creating a healthier, more just future for all.
