Racism vs. Pandemic by Saiah Tagoe

Nobody expected this
A pandemic we all had to face
but it’s crazy
that through this sickening virus
racism still took place
our black and brown communities suffered
and we suffered hard
but the lost of one black brother pulled us back together after all

We stood together and we untied with friends
We stood for what we believed in and protested to the end
this is a marathon not a race
we made sure the supremacists and all the racists saw our face
heard our case
as we voiced with pain and anger

loots and riots took place
as the quiet was saying violence is never okay
but when will they learn, we have been talking for years
we have been peaceful for years and yet
we still end up shedding tears for our falling black brothers and sister’s
life isn’t fair
but we can guarantee that this is a new generation that does not fear
“by any means necessary” once said by the great Malcolm X
a saying that holds weight in this fight against racial injustice
Black lives matter no doubt
but just because the protests and riots dialed down
does not mean it stops now
it does not end
black lives matter today, tomorrow so on and so forth until we witness change
Real change filled with real opportunities and the freedom we rightfully deserve
because if nothing has changed for the next generation
trust and believe they will pick up where we left off and the damage will be twice as worse
enough is enough
but the vision is clear no matter what year
we will continue to fight for change
