Rice, a staple part to any meal on my mother’s side.
Myself, my mama, and my mama’s mama
Know that for the perfect rice
It’s all about washing three or four times
And filling the water to the first line of your pinky finger.
But for days when the tummy isn’t feeling so well.

We add a little more water,
And let it cook for longer,

To make a comforting and soothing rice porridge
That settles the tummy and makes you feel good on the inside.

Like the rice porridge,
Adding a little more water in my life,
And sitting with myself for just a little bit longer,
Giving myself care and focusing on me,
Can also make me feel better on the inside.
Although life may be at that perfect point,
Where the water is filled to the first line on the pinky finger
There’s worth in adding a little more love and time
To make my body and mind feel better
On days when I’m feeling under the weather.
Whether it be for a tummy ache or for self care,
It’s important to put a little bit more time and energy
Into transforming your life into something more
Than that regular, everyday rice that you’re used to.

The rice porridge,
With its higher water content,
And longer simmer time,
Embodies putting extra care into yourself,
And leveling up how you treat yourself,
Making everything feel more warm and comfortable.
