The Architecture of Books: The Artists’ Books of Golnar Adili
Book artist Golnar Adili will elaborate on her process-oriented approach in looking at the book as architecture in small scale, and the importance in tactility, be it in language or exploring the body.
Golnar Adili is a mixed media artist, educator, and designer with a focus on diasporic identity and artist books. She holds a Master’s degree in architecture from the University of Michigan and has attended residencies at the Rockefeller Foundation for the Arts in Bellagio, Italy, The Center for Book Arts, NY, Smack Mellon in Brooklyn, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, the MacDowell Colony, Ucross Foundation for the Arts, Lower East Side Printshop, Manhattan Graphics Center, Women’s Studio Workshop, and Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Workspace among others.
Some of the venues Adili has shown her work include, Nurture Art, Craft and Folk Art Museum LA, CUE Art Foundation, International Print Center NY, and the Lower East Side Printshop. Some of the grants she has received include the Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant, the NYFA Fellowship in Printmaking/Drawing/Artists Books, and the Jerome Hill Finalist Grant. Adili will be exhibiting her work at the Victoria Albert Museum as a Jameel Prize finalist this September in addition to her solo exhibition at the CUE Art Foundation in January curated by Kevin Beasley. Libraries that collect her artist books include Rutgers Special Collections and University Archives, Library of Congress, Rutgers University, Yale University, and University of Michigan.
