Yumi Dineen Shiroma is a PhD candidate in English. Rooted in a rereading of Frantz Fanon’s theories through his neuropsychiatric research and clinical practice, her dissertation explores how anticolonial African writing from the 1960s-90s uses depictions of trauma and disability to imagine lifeworlds outside extractive (neo)colonial capitalism. Her fiction and poetry have appeared in A Darker Shade of Noir: Body Horror by Women Writers (ed. Joyce Carol Oates), BOMB Magazine, Hyperallergic, and elsewhere.
