Our Research
Ocean common pool resources that have historically been used by traditional groups such as fisheries, are increasingly being targeted by new uses such as renewable energy. At the same time, climate change and rapidly shifting marine habitats present a salient threat to the stability and productivity of marine fisheries. For managers and planners to begin evaluating the costs and benefits of various strategies for managing multiple users in the marine realm, we must better understand the consequences of overlapping user groups and the ways that new uses of the ocean may alter critical fisheries habitats and the stocks themselves. Our team is developing and implementing dynamic modeling tools for addressing these critical uncertainties and information gaps to help inform proactive strategies for managing these complex and interconnected challenges.
