Huaning Zhao earned her BS in Biotechnology from Northwest University in China, and her Master’s degrees from the University of Bridgeport. Prior to joining the Astrof Lab, she completed her Ph.D. in the laboratory of Dr. John C. Chappell in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Virginia Tech. Her research is primarily focused on microvascular development and regression in both physiological and pathological conditions. Her current project centers on characterizing the role of VEGF A secreted in the pharynx, specifically, its regulation of the formation and connectivity of the pharyngeal arch arteries.
Outside of the lab, Huaning enjoys engaging in handcrafts, painting, and reading.
