Christina Vyzas

Graduate Students

Christina Vyzas M.A. is an MD/PhD student at Rutgers NJMS. In the Astrof Lab, she is currently studying the role of second heart field-derived progenitors in congenital heart disease. She is planning to pursue cardiology. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University in 2018, where she was a Molecular Biology/Biochemistry and Studio Art double major. She displayed her sculpture thesis Proxemic Behavior in the Zilkha Gallery in 2018. She also worked in a developmental biology lab studying the role of Tbx6, Mesp-b, and Ripply1 in zebrafish spinal patterning. After college, she continued her research under the guidance of Dr. Stephen Devoto to defend a thesis and earn a Master’s degree at Wesleyan in 2019. Before medical school, she worked as a teacher at Hudson Catholic Regional High School, where she started a new academic track for pre-health students. In her free time, Christina enjoys running, hiking, and painting.
