Lauren Schueler

NEWL Oklahoma

Lauren Schueler is the director of N.E.W. Leadership and civic engagement at the Carl Albert Congressional Research and Studies Center. She coordinates the N.E.W. (National Education for Women’s) Leadership program that seeks to address the historical under-representation of women in politics and public service, as well as civic engagement more broadly on campus. In addition, she helps organize and advise other programs housed at the Carl Albert Center: Pipeline to Politics, Civic Engagement Fellows and Oklahoma Votes, a student organization focused on voter registration, education, and mobilization.. She serves as the Center’s liaison with Harvard University’s National Campaign for Political and Civic Engagement, the Oklahoma Campus Compact, the Students Learn Student Vote Coalition, the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge and co-coordinates Big XII Votes.
Lauren returned to the center in 2017 after serving as the assistant novice rowing coach with the University at Buffalo’s Women’s Rowing Team. While at the University at Buffalo, Lauren was responsible for coordinating the novice program as well as walk-on student-athlete recruitment.
Lauren served as the graduate assistant for N.E.W. Leadership for two years before serving as the assistant director for N.E.W. Leadership, a position she held for three years. She earned her master’s in adult and higher education with a concentration in intercollegiate athletic administration. While pursuing her graduate degree, Lauren was a member of the Association for Adult, Higher Education and Development (AHEAD). Lauren also holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from the University of Central Florida where she was a member of the women’s rowing team. While at UCF Lauren made the dean’s list and achieved academic recognition from the NCAA.
Lauren was appointed to the City of Norman City Council on May 11, 2021 and represents Ward 2. She serves on the Community Planning and Transportation and Oversight Committees.
Lauren is a member of Leadership Norman 2019, Norman Next, and the Oklahoma Women’s Coalition’s Young Professionals Roundtable. She is a recipient of the 2020 Next Under 40 Award given by Norman Next and the Norman Transcript and the 2019-20 OU Advocate of the Year.
