Jazz Drum Majors
Jazz Drum majors have recurring keyboard requirements each semester for their juries, and expected to demonstrate proficiency in scales, chords, and theory as with any other major.
Jazz Drum Majors Keyboard Requirements Each Semester
(Note: if you are an Undergrad Semester-5/6, or a Grad Semester-3 drum major, you are to follow the Jazz Jury Keyboard Essentials requirements in place of the items below):
- Prepare semester-level Scales and Chords, all keys, ascending and descending, 1-octave minimum
- Prepared performance of a memorized semester-level Standard tune, rooted chords and melody at an even tempo. No soloing
Jazz Drum majors must sign and submit the Jazz Drum Major Jury Agreement form by the 3rd-Week Monday deadline of each semester, co-signed by their current private lesson instructor. Students are to consult with their private lesson instructors to prepare for their keyboard jury evaluations through each semester.
