Mission

Develop tools and solutions to protect human & ecosystem health

Research Focus

Provide a better understanding of contaminant fate in natural and engineered aquatic environments and develop more efficient solutions for surface and groundwater remediation.

Research Interests

– Green infrastructure for urban runoff quality control, e.g., bioretention cells and bioswales.
– Constructed wetlands for the treatment of various kinds of wastewater, i.e., municipal, agricultural, and industrial effluents.
– Traditional and novel applications and method development in Compound Specific Isotope Analysis (CSIA).
– Groundwater remediation: radioactive pollution (e.g., Sr-90) and industrial chemicals (e.g., chloronitrobenzenes, chloroanilines).
– Passive sampling.
– Chemical and microbially-mediated reaction pathways of organic contaminants.
– Microplastics and tire-wear particles fate and detection methods.

– Emissions of particles and chemicals from tire-based pavements.
