Dr. Darina Petrovsky is a talented musician and pianist who, after receiving a BA in Musical Arts and Piano Performance, decided to pursue nursing as her career. After receiving an MSN from Case Western University, she completed her nursing education by receiving a PhD in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania, along with a certificate in Social, Cognitive, and Affective Neuroscience. She then completed a 2-year postdoctoral research fellowship in nursing science at the U of Pennsylvania, followed by a second 1-year postdoctoral research fellowship at NYU. Combining her musical talents with her nursing and neuroscience backgrounds, she developed the intervention “Calming Music Personalized for Sleep Enhancement in PeRsons living with Dementia (CoMPoSER” ) to positively affect the sleep, moods, and behaviors of persons with dementia, as well as those of their caregivers. Her program of research is focused on refining and testing this intervention.
