Mrs. Sharpe came from a unique household where two seemingly-distant worlds lived side-by-side. She grew up at a marina with boats and the bay in her backyard, with two horses living in her front yard! This unique upbringing instilled a deep love of all things in the natural world, especially of the marine lifestyle–a love that she hopes to instill in her son and her students. Mrs. Sharpe takes great pride in introducing and seeing her students succeed in real world research opportunities such as horseshoe crab tagging, fish tagging, salt marsh surveying, forest measurement, and water quality monitoring of local streams.

Erin plans to learn all that she can during her time on the PUFINS cruise so that she can use her experiences to be a better scientist and teacher for her students. In the past, she has been on short expeditions collecting and identifying tropical fish, but the PUFINS cruise will be her first overnight research experience! Erin enjoys spending time at sea on vacation cruise ships, so she is looking forward to the challenge of working at sea to advance society’s understanding of our oceans and planet.
