What is RU SHRM?

RU SHRM is the Rutgers University (RU) graduate student chapter of the National Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and is affiliated with the School of Management and Labor Relations (SMLR). Joining RU SHRM is about helping you network, develop as an HR Professional, and gaining HR employment.

What is the difference between National SHRM and RU SHRM?

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is the world’s largest association devoted to human resource management. Representing more than 250,000 members in over 140 countries, the Society serves the needs of HR professionals and advances the interests of the HR profession. Founded in 1948, SHRM has more than 575 affiliated chapters within the United States and subsidiary offices in China and India. Whereas RU SHRM is the graduate student chapter of the National Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) in New Jersey and is affiliated with the School of Management and Labor Relations (SMLR).

How to become a National SHRM member?

Go to the SHRM website www.shrm.org/ to become a National SHRM member and to get information about SHRM events and other updates.. For students the membership fee is $49 per year and for working professionals it is $219 per year.

What is the RUSHRM chapter number?

The RUSHRM Chapter number is #5154. When becoming a National SHRM member under Student Membership, you will be asked to enter in the RU SHRM chapter number.

What kinds of events are organized by RU SHRM?

RUSHRM organizes various events like Multicultural night, Connections night (Mentor/ Mentee Program), HR Career Panels, Thanksgiving Dinner meeting, and General Members meetings, throughout the year. RUSHRM also organizes workshops like Dining Etiquette, Resume Writing and Interview Skills, and Networking Workshops. These events and workshops will help members in networking and developing as an HR Professional. HR leaders and Rutgers alumni come to these events to share their experiences and guide the members in their career paths. In addition, RU SHRM organizes an annual business conference in the spring of each year. The conference attracts more than 200 top executive business leaders, human resource professionals, graduate and undergraduate students, and Rutgers HR faculty and staff experts.

How to apply for leadership positions?

The Executive team will email all MHRM students regarding different open positions at the beginning of each semester. Candidates can apply and send their resumes for respective positions before the designated deadline. Candidates will be selected for leadership positions through interviews only. You may also check the this website for updates.

What are the different RU SHRM teams?

Marketing and Communication, Operations, Finance, Information Technology, Membership and Student Liaison, and Merit Awards. All the teams work hard and coordinate with each other to organize various events. A listing of all team descriptions can be found on our teams page

How to RSVP for events?

A link will be provided with every upcoming event on the RU SHRM website. Click on that link and then provide your details such as name, email address, etc. to be registered for the event. Few events have limited seating so it is beneficial to RSVP as soon as possible.
