Configuring Your Default Email Address

In order to ensure that your Canvas account can be successfully linked with other academic systems, you must ensure that your default email address is set in the format NetID@sdm.rutgers.edu or NetID@rutgers.edu

Identifying your Default Email Address

Log in to Rutgers Canvas and select Account > Settings from the navigation menu.

Locate the Ways to Contact sidebar located on the right of the settings page. Your default email address is identified with a grey star located to the right (Fig. 2 #1). If the default address is already in the format NetID@sdm.rutgers.edu or NetID@rutgers.edu, then there is no further action that needs to be taken.

If your default email address is in a different format, follow the steps below.

Changing your Default Email Address

From the Ways To Contact sidebar, select the + Email Address (Fig 2 #2), enter a new email address and then select Register Email (Fig 3). You will be sent an email requesting that you validate your address. Once received, follow the link to confirm your registration. (Fig 4)

After validating your email address, log in to Rutgers Canvas and select Account > Settings from the navigation menu. Within the Ways to Contact sidebar, locate your NetID@sdm.rutgers.edu or NetID@rutgers.edu email address and click the star besides the address (Fig 1 #1) to set it as your default.
