From Natural-Language Prompts to Physical Circuits: Impromptu at IEEE ROSE

Congratulations to my Capstone Senior Design students Vincent Alesi, Absa Fall, Matthew Grimalovsky, and Adrian Jackson, whose project was published and presented at the 2026 IEEE International Symposium on Robotic and Sensors Environments (ROSE) in Norfolk, Virginia.

Their paper, “Impromptu: An LLM-Driven Prompt-to-Hardware Circuit Prototyping Platform on a Cartesian Gantry,” introduces an end-to-end platform that transforms a natural-language prompt into a physically assembled electronic circuit. The system uses large language models to generate circuit designs, validates them through SPICE simulation, and then automatically constructs the circuit on a breadboard using a low-cost Cartesian robotic gantry.

It is exciting to see a Senior Design project develop into a peer-reviewed publication and to see the students’ work recognized beyond the classroom.

Their project was also featured by the Rutgers School of Engineering and the Rutgers Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
