RU Linguists at SULA-TripleA 2026!

This May, at the first joint SULA and TripleA conference, held at the University of British Columbia, several Rutgers linguists gave presentations. The full group of presenters from our department included Dr. Ryan Walter Smith, Quartz Colvin, Gérard Avelino, Ariela Ye, Aidan Sharma, and Jiayuan Chen. Rutgers linguists gave three talks at the conference. Dr. Ryan Walter Smith gave a talk titled “Deadjectival and denominal derivation in the composition of scalar change in Persian”, Aidan and Jiayuan presented a talk on “Relating Anti-Uniqueness and Non-honorificity to Definiteness Marking in Magahi”, and Gérard Avelino gave a talk titled “From file cards to file folders: Nested aboutness and Tagalog nominal marking.”

 

There were also two poster presentations from our department. Quartz Colvin presented a poster on “The semantics of White Hmong (in)definiteness”, and Gérard Avelino and Ariela Ye presented a poster titled “Person Restrictions in Tagalog Imperatives.”
