This year, Rutgers students and faculty had three presentations at the 56th Annual Meeting of the North East Linguistic Society (NELS 56).

Graduate students Ariela Ye and Jiayuan Chen gave a joint talk titled “On overt and covert definite marking in vocatives: selecting vs. non-selecting calls.”
The faculty members who went to NELS56 gave poster presentations. Dr. Dorothy Ahn and Dr. Maria Kouneli’s poster was titled “The semantics of Kipsigis demonstrative spreading.” Dr. Ryan Walter Smith and Dr. Mark Baker had a shared poster presentation as well, titled “Agentless Presuppositions of again: Meet Obligatory Control”
A couple other graduate students (Aidan Sharma, Catherine Huang), faculty members (Shannon Bryant) and alumni (Yagmur Sag) also attended NELS, and are included in the group photo above!
