Recent Work
We show that spin-orbit coupled polar metal can host new phonon-induced collective modes in a magnetic field aligned with its polar axis The number and energies of these collective modes can be tuned by the strength of the applied field. We make specific predictions for the signatures of these modes in electron spin resonance experiments
Using an integrated computational-analytic approach, we have explored the possibility of an emergent phase transition in a 1 + 1 frustrated quantum system. Our mean-field estimate for the parameters of the quantum helical transition is in good agreement with the density matrix renormalization (DMRG) results. We also evaluate the entanglement spectrum and nonlocal string order parameters to characterize the topological character of the emergent helical phase.
3. Dielectric Relaxation by Quantum Critical Magnons
We report the experimental observation of dielectric relaxation by quantum critical magnons with complex capacitance measurements. Our study demonstrates the electrical activity of coupled low-energy spin and lattice excitations, an example of quantum multiferroic behavior.
4. Light-Driven Transitions in Quantum Paraelectrics
Motivated by recent experiments on pump-probe induced polar ordering, we study a minimalist coupled phonon mode to capture their key features and to make predictions. Analyzing the classical dynamics, we find chaotic behavior at high fluences and phases that are inaccessible in equilibrium. We also predict that quantum fluctuations will result in a shift in the critical fluence which can be observed in experiments.
5. Observation of a Critical Charge Mode in a Strange Metal
Strange metals lie outside the conventional description of conducting behavior, and their charge dynamics are not accessible with conventional probes. Using a state-of-the-art technique, synchrotron-radiation-based Mossbauer spectroscopy, we have studied the longitudinal charge fluctuations of as particular strange metal phase as a function of temperature and pressure. Our results represent a direct observation of critical charge fluctuations as a new signature of strange metals.
