Director’s Message

Welcome to the Center for Dermal Research (CDR) that I founded in March 2011. The CDR was formed in order to address skin care research through a multidisciplinary approach and collaborations with the pharmaceutical, personal care and cosmetic industries. The Center has hosted numerous events (seminars, workshops, conferences and training/educational courses) at Rutgers University and local venues with attendees from academia and the pharmaceutical, personal care and cosmetic industries. The associated state-of-the-art research laboratory which I head and that is known as the Laboratory for Drug Delivery LDD (check Michniak Lab), consists of about 20 research associates, graduate, undergraduate students and technicians from different departments at Rutgers University including, Pharmacy, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Chemistry.

This is the first time that an academic Center is bringing together this level of skin/dermatological expertise in NJ with pharmaceutical, personal care, cosmetic and regulatory companies in the Northeast. The CDR has initiated several collaborations and is partnering with other academic research groups in the U.S. and internationally (Portugal, Brazil, Poland and Israel). The long-term vision for the Center for Dermal Research is to grow into a major institute for skin research in the Northeast supported by research grants from the federal and state governments and by industrial R & D contracts.
