Ziling Zhu (2nd year) and Prof. Kristen Syrett presented their work titled “Do Mandarin nouns and classifiers individuate? Experimental evidence from a quantity judgment task” at the 12th Dubrovnik Conference on Cognitive Science (DUCOG) held on May 18th-21st, 2021.
Their work examines the mapping between universal ontology and Mandarin morphosyntax, with a specific focus on whether classifiers encode the distinction between objects and substances. Their abstract can be found here (asynchronous presentations, Wednesday 19th of May).
