Lab for Developmental Language Studies’ Outreach at Rutgers Day

The Rutgers Laboratory for Developmental Language Studies, led by Dr. Kristen Syrett, engaged in community outreach at Rutgers Day as a member of Cognitive Kids.

Cognitive Kids is a joint effort between three child development research labs at Rutgers University: the Lab for Developmental Language Studies, the Cognition and Learning Center led by Dr. Jenny Jinjing Wang, and the Quantitative Development Lab led by Dr. Michelle Hurst.

Research assistants from all three Cognitive Kids labs played games with children of all ages and engaged in conversations with their parents and the public at our table. Children created brain hats and learned about the different parts and functions of the brain. They played a “dot game” designed to illustrate the the concept of Approximate Number System (ANS) Acuity.
