The Pre-Junior Enrichment Program is a six-week introductory summer course designed to prepare rising junior nursing students for success in upper-level nursing coursework, including classroom instruction, lab practice, and hospital “simulation” experiences.

This program equips students with essential cognitive and practical nursing skills, building a strong theoretical and clinical foundation for high-quality nursing practice.

Program Overview

  • Duration: 6 Weeks
  • Dates: Summer 2025 (Week of June 30th – August 6th)

Program Goals

The primary objective is to enhance student confidence, competence, and clinical judgment as they transition into the upper-division nursing program.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the Pre-Junior Enrichment Program, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of Nursing’s Code of Ethics and uphold patient rights and confidentiality.
  2. Understand and articulate the importance of client safety in all care settings.
  3. Exhibit effective and therapeutic communication techniques.
  4. Perform a basic health assessment competently.
  5. Accurately obtain and document vital signs.
  6. Calculate medication dosages and administer medications safely.
  7. Apply proper body mechanics to transfer patients safely.
  8. Assist with a patient’s Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
  9. Demonstrate proper infection control procedures, including handwashing and sterile glove donning.
  10. Develop an individualized nursing care plan and deliver a concise patient report.

Eligibility & Prerequisites

  • Enrollment is limited to Rutgers School of Nursing EOF students.
  • Students must have successfully completed all lower-level division nursing courses.
