Alumni Spotlight/Profile:
The EOF department would love to feature you, and we welcome all Alumni Spotlight suggestions. These feature stories are a way to share the important work of alumni with the Rutgers School of Nursing and EOF Nursing community, so please don’t be shy! Meet Dr. Rahshida Atkins and Dr. Shanda Johnson!
Dr. Atkins and Dr. Johnson are two friends born and raised in Newark, New Jersey. Dr. Atkins and Dr. Johnson met the summer of 1993 as they both were entering the EOF Nursing Program at Rutgers College of Nursing now known as the Rutgers School of Nursing. The two formed a friendship, sisterhood, and bond that has lasted for 27 years and counting. They made a promise to each other along with three of their classmates to make it through the nursing program in four years. They achieved that goal but Dr. Atkins and Dr. Johnson pushed forward obtaining their Masters in Nursing along with their advanced practice degrees, they both are Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP’s) here in New Jersey. In 2009 Dr. Johnson and Dr. Atkins decided to obtain their Ph.D. in Nursing and they both once again completed the journey together obtaining all three (3) degrees from Rutgers University School of Nursing. Dr. Atkins and Dr. Johnson now work on improving health care disparities within their respective communities in which they serve.
