The New Jersey Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) provides financial assistance and support services (e.g. counseling, tutoring, and developmental course work) to students from educationally and economically disadvantaged backgrounds who attend participating institutions of higher education in the State of New Jersey. Criteria for undergraduate eligibility may be accessed NJ Office of the Secretary of Higher Education

EOF does not cover the cost of your college education however; ALL EOF students are eligible to receive an EOF Grant. Undergraduate grants range from $200 annually to $2,650 annually depending on the type of institution and financial need. These grants are renewable based upon continued eligibility. To receive additional aid, ALL students MUST complete the FAFSA in a timely fashion.

You will receive college credits if you receive a 4 or better on your AP exam. These courses maybe be transferred in as an elective or fulfill a general education requirement. You will also receive college credit for any college level 3-credit course. However, it is your responsibility to submit your college transcript to Rutgers University.

All First-Year students as a prerequisite to admission are required to attend the Summer Institute Program, a five-week residential program, that provides an academic foundation prior to the start of your nursing program. As a Rutgers School of Nursing EOF student, academic support classes and sessions are provided for Anatomy & Physiology, Pathophysiology, Organic Bio-Chemistry, as well as many others. In addition, all students who are entering their Junior Year are required to participate in a Pre-Jr Clinical and Level II Preview Summer Enrichment Course which prepares students for Junior year. All School of Nursing students have access to the Office for Academic Success (OAS), which provides free tutoring and workshops specific to nursing students.

During the five-week residential program, incoming First Year Students will be taking introductory courses of Anatomy and Physiology I, English Composition 101, College Algebra and Stats, and Critical Learning Strategies.

Yes, you will be earning 3 college credits during the Summer Institute.

Yes, you are still required to take them because the courses in the summer serve to introduce you to the subjects and assist you in the transition from high school to college.

New students who receive an average score of 580 or above on the new SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing exam are exempt from the English portion of the Placement Test and automatically placed in English 101.

The Summer Institute is designed to help you with both English and Writing skills. However, there are options available to you if you find that you continue to need help once the semester begins. First and foremost, visit your English professor during their office hours. It is also recommended that you schedule appointments in advance at the Writing Center located in Conklin Hall in order to receive tutoring help for your formal papers.
