Peer to Peer Support

SN-EOF Peer Mentors helps first-year scholar’s transition from high school to Rutgers University School of Nursing by providing support and guidance. This role is accomplished by the Peer Mentor’s active engagement and experience leading and participating in a past summer institute. The Peer Mentoring program focuses on academic and social adjustment.
Select Position Responsibilities Include:
- Assist EOF first year scholars with academic and social concerns
- Develop and facilitate workshops and events
- Remain available to assists students via virtual appointments if appropriate and when needed
- Assist first year scholars in developing an awareness of academic resources and opportunities, policies, and support services
- Be highly accessible and responsive to the needs of the students and respond accordingly
- Must attend all training and mandated sessions with a good and positive attitude
- Serve as an EOF ambassador for recruitment events as necessary
- Refer student to available campus resources to meet individual needs including counseling, mentoring, etc.

SN-EOF Peer Tutors provide additional academic support and provide one-on-one tutoring or small group tutoring to EOF students. These tutors were recommended based on prior experience working as faculty assistants during our summer bridge programs (summer institute and pre-junior clinical program) and have received a condensed training from the Office of Academic Success (OAS). The SN-EOF tutors are a supplemental support service intended to serve the specific academic needs of EOF scholars.
Working in collaboration with our Developmental Specialist, select Position Responsibilities include:
- Assist SN-EOF students with academic needs in Upper-Level Courses.
- Facilitate educational workshops focused on learning and study strategies.
- Remain available to assists students via virtual appointments if appropriate and when needed
- Be highly accessible and responsive to the needs of the students and respond accordingly
- Required to attend additional trainings throughout semester and as needed.
- Refer the student to available campus resources to meet individual needs, including counseling, and additional tutoring in OAS
