Dr. Troy Messick was invited to give a talk at Formal Approaches to South Asian Languages 16 (FASAL 16). His talk, titled “The domain and structure of reciprocals: Insights from Telugu,” builds on joint work with Dr. Sreekar Raghotham (a Rutgers alum!) and presents a description and analysis of Telugu reciprocals in comparison with other languages. The talk addresses topics including case agreement, the internal structure of complex reciprocals, binding domains for reciprocals versus reflexives, and patterns of agreement within adpositional and extended noun phrases.
Another Rutgers graduate alum, Dr. Diti Bhadra, was also an invited speaker at the conference. Her talk was titled “Surprise, Emotion, Cognition: Mirativity in Tibeto-Burman.”
