The Books We Read Blog is conducting a series of interviews with contributors and friends of the blog to get a snapshot of our reading habits: the things we like to read, the circumstances in which we read, and more.
Rose Barbalace is a Library Supervisor II at the Alexander Library. As the Student Coordinator for the NBL work/study students, she has co-hosted several Books We Read event and is considered an honorary BWR Team Member. What kinds of books do you like to read?
I’ll read books of all genres from biographies to romance novels to sci-fi to travel books. I’m always down for a good mystery novel too.
Do you have format preferences (print, ebook, audiobook, abridged, original language/translated, etc.)?
Most of my books are now read on my kindle or kindle app on my phone. However, I do still order books from the library and make use of EZBorrow.
How do you find new books to read?
Funny enough the last couple books I’ve read have been recommendations from interviews I’ve watched on social media.
Where and when do you read? Outdoors or indoors? At home or out and about? Mornings, evenings, or just before bed?
Mostly in bed or lounging on the couch. I always bring reading with me while on vacation which I always start but never finish.
Do you use any libraries or library resources for non-required reading?
EZ-Borrow (one of the many ways to borrow books not available in any Rutgers library, even if the Rutgers copy is on loan, editor’s comment).
What do you get out of your non-required reading?
A little bit of fun and hopefully lots of laughs––I try to read things that are not too serious for non-required readings.
What are you currently reading, or what have you read and enjoyed most recently?
Currently I’m reading The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
Recommend a book in one sentence that you think everyone should read:
I’ve enjoyed the Plum Series from Janet Evanovich, very fun read.
