Join us for another fun stressbuster event on Friday, December 11, 2 pm. Registration is open for the workshop called
Graphic design is my passion! How to create irresistible content for social media.
In this virtual stressbuster event held in a group setting, we are going to walk you through how to create virtual holiday cards or images for social media with the help of Canva, the online app we used for both examples on this page. Registration required. You will receive a link after completing the registration.
You think you are a bit short of talent? Well, so are we. The cute-pink-pig graphic design on the invitation well represents our skillset (combined), which, with the exception of art librarian Megan Lotts, is virtually non-existent.
Well-known for Tumblr users, the title of the workshop refers to a popular parody of the original phrase used by visual artists and graphic designers. The sarcastic slogan infers a second part, i.e., “but it’s not yours,” referring to rookie design mistakes littering social media in these days.
Canva is a great source for royalty-free images, backgrounds, and templates in the right size for the various social media applications, even in the free version that we are going to use at the workshop. Bring your own photos or use the pictures provided by the online software. With little or no graphic design skills, you will be able to create your own content. No need for high level computer skills either, the drag-and-drop functions and the easily editable textboxes ensure that you will create your own engaging visuals in no time. It definetely lacks the subtleties of Adobe Indesign or Photoshop, but it is perfect for a quick design job as long as you don’t mind sharing templates with other users.
TIP: For a pre- or post-workshop stressbuster, try running a Google image search on graphic design is my passion or a read a bit more history on the origin of Graphic design is my passion! You won’t be disappointed.
