The Recreational Reading Collection

Need some holiday reads? Before you leave, pick up a book to read!

Did you know that the Recreational Reading Collection offers over 1,000 titles for pleasure reading to current Rutgers affiliates?

Physically located in the Carr Library, these books are available for local browsing and pick up, as well as delivery to a library of choice, similarly to other books from the collections of Rutgers University Libraries.

A research guide has been recently published with resources and ideas how to find books to read for fun, which is one of the best methods to take a break from studies and work. Genres include Fantasy Fiction to escape to a world full of magical elements, Murder Investigation Fiction, featuring a wide variety of crime stories, Man Woman Relationship Fiction, aka romance novels, Life Change Events Fiction, with titles relevant for different age groups during the most difficult times in their lives, and special topics such as Mothers and Daughters Fiction. Book reviews can also be a good way to find books of interest. If you don’t find a book you are looking for, please contact us with your recommendation. We’d love to hear from you!

The collection is currently managed by librarians from the Books We Read project, an initiative based in the Chang Science Library focusing on promoting reading in various settings. Recent programs include Summer Tales 2021, a reading program during the summer session and contributions to Banned Books Week 2021.
